Our Story

In memory of Michael John Badnall

The Mitchy Foundation was founded following the sudden loss of a beloved father, brother, son, and friend of many: Michael "Mitchy" Badnall. An event that changed our lives drastically.

On February 4th, 2020, Mitchy sadly lost his life to a sudden heart attack. Having no known previous concerns with his heart, this came as a real shock to many of his friends and family. Among those affected by this immense loss, Bobby and Hollie started to try and navigate life in the absence of their dad. It goes without saying that they would not allow his legacy and memory to end there.

In early 2023, Hollie and Bobby started to form the start of what would soon become The Mitchy Foundation. A charity dedicated to helping people improve their heart health, with the hope of preventing others from enduring the pain they went through losing their dad.

THE STORY CONTINUES

A strong community working together to make a big impact

Since losing their Dad, Hollie and Bobby have built The Mitchy Foundation into a strong, community-led charity, raising over £44,000 to fund local initiatives that prevent the loss of life from heart attacks and cardiovascular disease.

That money has gone straight back into the community: funding publicly accessible defibrillators, putting on free pop-up heart screenings that have tested hundreds of people for cholesterol and HbA1c, alerting tens of individuals to seek further assistance as well as running hands-on CPR training so anyone can step in when it matters.

We've also backed the Benfleet First Responders in their mission to save more lives through responding to emergency 999 call-outs. We've also gone on to host coffee mornings for families who've lost someone suddenly, offering a place to grieve, to talk, and to know you're not alone.
