Did you know there have been studies to show that having a skipping breakfast or having a non-nutritious breakfast can lead to an increased level of cholesterol? Check out some of these tried and tasted , low-cholesterol breakfast recipes to start your day in the best way.

1. Avocado Toast
An oldie but a goodie in the brekkie world, this trendy brunch choice is not only delicious but wins gold when it comes to healthiness. Avocados are known for providing 'healthy fats', this comes from their high levels of of monounsaturated fatty acids, plus they are a rich source of sterols. Both of which reduce the cholesterol levels, thus decreasing the risk of developing heart disease or experiencing a stroke. Try to opt of wholegrain bread for the toast too!
2. Banana Pancakes
Another front runner on the list of Instagram/TikTok trending breakfasts, who said pancakes couldn't be healthy!? Give this recipe a go.
Ingredients: -2 bananas (ripe) -2 eggs
-96 g Rolled Oats -1/2 tsp baking powder -Pinch of salt -1tsp Olive Oil
-Handful of Berries
-Handful of Almonds
Method: 1. Combine Bananas, eggs, oats, baking powder and salt in a bowl- or try mixing together in a blender for a smoother batter.
2. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Once hot, add the batter mix in 1/2 cup servings. Cook on both sides until golden.
3. Serve with Berries and Almonds.
Enjoy!
3. Porridge
A classic. You can't go wrong with a bowl of hearty porridge to kickstart your day. Oats are high in fibre which helps to remove cholesterol from your body. Opting for an unsweetened oatmeal allows you to mix it up from day to day. Choose from toppings like bananas, apple and cinnamon, honey and nuts or berries to change it up.
When having porridge or cereal of any kind, try opting for almond milk- like avocados, almonds are high in monounsaturated fatty acids which are associated with cholesterol reduction!
4. Orange Juice
Many of us will already have orange juice in the fridge as a staple item, but did you know that by adding this to your daily consumption you can actually reduce your cholesterol levels? Not only does Orange Juice boost your immune system through its concentrated vitamin C levels, but many store-bought orange juices are fortified with plant sterols and stanols.
Sterols and Stanols are naturally found in plants and take a similar shape to that of cholesterol, they are the right size and shape to block the digestive system from absorbing cholesterol. Instead of going through to your bloodstream and causing clogged arteries, the cholesterol is forced to leave your body as waste.
Having a balanced and hearty breakfast is key to making sure you can function mentally throughout your day, but also can have a major impact on your bodily functions like digestion! Think wisely when choosing between shreddies, sausages or an avocado sandwich for your morning meal!
